For the last 150 years, coal mining has had a significant impact on economic and social development of the Savinjsko-šaleška region, especially the Šalek Valley. The Šalek Valley has paid a heavy environmental price for its wider social development.

Today, coal mining is no longer an industry of the future, and a multi-level restructuring of the entire region is needed, a just transition, a process that will take many years.

3DIVERSE is developing a model to help restructure the Savinjsko – šaleška region, introducing a comprehensive, multi-sectoral and multi-level approach to planning and implementing investments in sustainable energy infrastructure through the coordinated application of supply and demand side measures.
