As part of the educational series on energy, mobility, waste, and the green economy, held on October 10, 2024, at “Podnebno energetska pisrana Velenje”, 3DIVERS project partner KPV presented the Characteristics of District Heating in the Šaleška Valley.

Šaleška Valley is undergoing a significant transformation of its district heating system, which currently supplies heat to 35,000 households and 650 industrial users. The main source of heat remains the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant (TEŠ), but the distribution system is already shifting toward lower temperatures and exploring sustainable solutions.


A key step has been the reduction of temperature regimes in multi-apartment buildings, which not only improves energy efficiency but also enhances living comfort: more even heating, less dust, and a healthier indoor climate. In parallel, renovations of the hot water pipeline network are underway, along with studies on integrating renewable energy sources and the preparation of investment documentation.


With these efforts, Šaleška Valley is setting an example for transitioning to a low-carbon society, proving that energy renovation can also be an opportunity to improve quality of life.nt …
