The Municipality of Velenje has purchased the Stara elektrarna complex from Premogovnik Velenje at the end of the year 2022. Under the guidelines of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, they will start the renovation of the building and establish an industrial-educational park, the Centre of the Future.

The Old Power Station building is unused and has been dilapidated for a long time, but at the same time, it is an architectural jewel in the industrial building heritage. The Old Power Station will be revitalized as soon as possible and turn it into an industrial and educational park, the Centre of the Future. Once a generator of electricity, it will become a generator of highly educated human resources, and highly successful innovations in the fields of economy, renewable energies, and environmental protection. The program will be based on three pillars: environment, circular economy, and education.
