We are pleased to announce that DisCoNetHeat, developed under the framework of the 3DIVERSE project, is now publicly available! The tool was created by our partner, the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

DisCoNetHeat is designed to help identify potential disconnections from district heating networks. It predicts which households may be at risk of leaving the system – something that can lead to higher costs and reduced efficiency for those who remain.

The tool analyzes factors such as low heat usage, user complaints, and the availability of alternative heating options. By applying smart data analysis, it identifies users who may be at risk early on, allowing energy providers to respond proactively – whether by adjusting prices, improving services, or offering incentives to stay connected.

It also compares the cost of district heating to alternatives like heat pumps, helping stakeholders make informed decisions that support a fairer, more efficient, and more affordable energy system.

Key features of the tool include:

  • Easy heat cost mapping – Upload your Excel data and the app generates a QGIS map showing heat costs across the district.
  • Spot risk areas fast – Identify where individual heating might be more cost-effective than district heating, so you can flag zones at risk of disconnecting.
  • Test different scenarios – Explore different cost setups to understand how changes could impact your network.

The tool is freely accessible and can be used by energy planners, local authorities, researchers, and district heating operators. It has been published in line with the LIFE Programme’s commitment to transparency, knowledge sharing, and fostering replicability across Europe.
